It's Complicated

It's Complicated
Jan 24, 2010

One thing that is not complicated is the way I feel about this movie. Loved it!

Nancy Meyers did it again! I loved her 2003 movie 'Something's Got To Give" so it's no surprise that I loved this one!

Meryl Streep was fantastic. She is hilarious! Alec Baldwin playing her ex-husband that married a younger woman was a perfect fit for her. They played off each other so well and throw Steve Martin in that mix and you have a winner! John Krasinski was a definite screen stealer. I might be a little biased but I love him in everything he does!

It you haven't figured it out yet, the relationship between Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin is what's so complicated.

I found myself laughing out loud during the movie. I took my mom to see this movie and she enjoyed it too.

It's cute and funny! Not sure if it's worth a $9 trip to the movies but if you did pay that amount I don't think you will be that disappointed.

The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones
Jan 16, 2010

I am still trying to figure out how to describe this movie. It's not really a murder mystery since in the trailer and the beginning of the movie they tell you who murdered Susie Salmon. I guess you can say its a suspense/spiritual movie.

You see Susie after her murder stuck in the "in between". You also see Susie's family dealing with the tragic loss of a child. Mark Wahlberg is great in this role. Of course I might be biased since I saw him on his first tour with the Funky Bunch back in the early 90's back at Splashtown. After singing Good Vibrations he stripped down to his Calvins and jumped into the wave pool! Anyway!!! Susan Sarandon was fabulous in this movie as the grandmother. Stanley Tucci as the villian was great! From the first time he shows up on the screen he gives you the heebie jeebies

Peter Jackson really made a visually beauitiful movie. The story was great. Even though you knew who murdered Susie you were still on the edge of your seat seeing what happens after her death and how he will be caught.

Disclaimer: I am not a parent. I know that the thought of losing a kid is horific so if you are sensitive in that way you might want to stay away. I was in tears in some parts.

Movie Ratings

I had a good suggestion about my blog.
Put a rating at the end of the review.
I am going to go back and add the 5 point rating to the reviews.
5 of course being the highest rating and 1 being the lowest!

Thanks for reading!

I give this blog post 5 stars because I rock!

Daybreakers

Daybreakers
Jan 12, 2010

I knew I wanted to see this film after seeing a quick teaser trailer for it. I didn't do much research on the movie like I normally do i.e. looking at the writer, director and stars. I knew Ethan Hawke was in but that was about it. I knew there were vampires and there were farming humans for blood. That's the plot they give you in the trailer and that's all you really need to know.

I loved the look of the movie. Since vampires aren't allowed in the sun without bursting into flames the film was dark in some parts. But not too dark where you are squinting like in the movie Quarantine I recently saw. Ethan Hawke was a great vampire. After all the Twilight hype it's nice to actually see a vampire without all the gay glitter and bad makeup.

I think the film ran a little over 1 1/2 hours. It wasn't too short and it wasn't too long. I could go into detail on the movie but that would give a lot way and ruin it for the 1 person that is actually reading this blog.

I totally recommend this movie. The visual effect were great. I loved the look of the vampires. I think I failed to mention that Willem Dafoe was in it! Now you know everything he is in it great! I wish I could say more without ruining the movie.

I will definitely be looking into the other movies The Spierig Brothers wrote and directed. They did a fabulous job with this one!

Leap Year

Leap Year
Jan 10, 2010

You know how this movie was going to turn out just by watching the trailer but I still felt a need to see it. I am a sucker for love stories. Especially ones set in Ireland! One of my favorite chick flick-typical love story is The Matchmaker which is also set in Ireland. Ok...back to Leap Year.

It stars Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. I recently saw The Lookout staring Matthew Goode and I was sold on him! Tall, Lean, Dark Haired, Blue Eyes and has a accent. Hello...Perfect Guy!

Anna (Adams) has to get to Dublin to meet up with her up tight typical business guy boyfriend Jeremy and Declan (Goode) is going to drive her there after her plane gets rerouted due to weather. Typical love triangle. No need to say spoiler alert and no need for me to go into any more detail on the plot. Everyone knows how this will end. Its the stuff in the middle of the movie that counts. I laughed a few times and was charmed by Declan's whit and accent! Anyone that has seen any of Amy Adams movies knows how she just glows on screen and this movie isn't any different.

This was a cute run of the mill - girl has a boy, girl meets a new boy and then we all know what happens after that - movie.

This is going to be a DVD Redbox rental on a lonely Friday night.

Up in the Air

Up in the Air
Jan 3, 2010

Anyone that knows me knows my love for George Clooney runs deep. I have loved him since he appeared on The Facts of Life back in 1985! But let me set the record straight…I don’t run out and see every movie Mr. Clooney makes. I think the last movie I saw with George was Syriana back in 05. After seeing George Clooney and Jason Reitman’s name in the trailer for this movie I knew I had to see it. I became a Jason Reitman fan after seeing Juno. Plus he comes from good stock. Ivan Reitman (Meatballs, Stripes and Ghostbusters) is his dad.

I love movies that make me think hours, days and even weeks after leaving the theater and Up in the Air is one of them. I saw a little of myself in Ryan Bingham. I am not sure if it the wall he puts up or how vulnerable he became after letting the wall down a little, but I could relate.

George Clooney makes it easy for you to fall in love with his character. Anna Kendrick, who plays Natalie Keener his work associate, was adorable. I couldn't place her while watching the movie but she plays Jessica in the Twilight movies. They were great together on screen.

I laughed, I think I might have cried a little and I left the movie theater thinking about life and “What’s in my backpack”.

Go see this movie before it starts winning awards so you can say you saw it before the hype!

Movie Reviews!

Ok...Here I go!
This is where I will post a review for every movie that I see this year.
Let me clarify...movies viewed in the theater.
I rent movies all the time but they are usually movies I have already seen or dorky documentaries.

It's already the second weekend of 2010 and I have seen Up in the Air and Leap Year.

Let me watch Inglorious Basterds first and then I will start on the reviews later this afternoon....maybe!
