The Kids Are All Right
Aug 1, 10

When I purchased my ticket the counter girl asked me "You know what this movie is about...right?". I giggled and said yes. I'm wondering how many people thought this was The Who documentary and got surprised when they learned it was about a lesbian couple who had 2 children via sperm donation.

Julianne Moore and Annette Bening were great as Jules and Nic. They both used the same sperm donor and gave birth to Joni and Laser. Yep..his name was Laser and I think that's kick ass!! Anyway....Joni and Laser decided to find their sperm donor. It's Mark Ruffalo. The movie just shows the ups and downs of their now strange family dynamic and a few twist and turns that as a viewer I saw coming a mile away!

It left me wanting to know a little more at the end of the movie but other than that I enjoyed it.

I was so excited that the Santikos Silverado in little ole Tomball Texas was showing this movie. They have been showing the smaller independent movies for at least a week and as soon as I see the movie times I pounce!

I really wanted to see this movie and I'm glad I did. Marisa Tomei, Jonah Hill and John C Reilly were all great in this movie. Its about Molly (Tomei) who meets John (Reilly) at a party and they start dating. The wrench in the bicycle spoke is of course Molly's son Cyrus played by Hill. Reilly and Hill were great together

I really don't know how to describe this movie. It was a little comedy and a little drama. I really enjoyed it. I'm also glad to see Jonah Hill in this type of role. I'm glad he won't be spending his whole career making 'vag-jokes'.

Letters to Juliet
June 2010

I remember the first time I saw this movie trailer and in those 2 minutes it somehow hit me in the heart at the right spot and I just started to cry. I'm not sure if it was the combination of the love story and Taylor Swift song or maybe it was the correct time of the month but I whispered to my friend through my tears "I have to see that movie".

I'm a sucker for a stereo-typical love story. I took my mom to this movie and she loved it. I thought it was charming. No spoiler alerts needed for this movie. You know what will happen.

Cute date movie.
Since it took me so long to write this ts already off the theaters so when it comes out on dvd rent it with a sweetie and have a sweet night.

The A-Team

The A-Team
June 11, 10
(midnight show)

I loved this tv show as a kid! When I found out there was a movie coming out I will admit that I got excited!! Now I do know that tv shows from the 80's were totally cheesy and I didn't expect much from the movie besides just being entertained and that's exactly what I got.

No one is going to win an oscar for this movie but you will get some laughs from it. It's a typical summer movie with lots of one liners and explosions. I loved the cast in this movie. Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Rampage Jackson and Sharlto Copley were a great fit. Copley, which you may remember as Wikus from District 9, stole the show in my opinion. Good popcorn movie to start off the summer movie season! I forgot to mention that Bradley Cooper has some shirtless scenes in this movie. I take back the comment about no one winning a oscar...Bradley's pecs and abs should be nominated and win for best supporting cast member!!

Get Him To The Greek

Get Him To The Greek
June 6, 10

I think this was the first real comedy I saw this year and it was worth the wait! Now...I know you think this is the continuing story from Forgetting Sarah Marshall but its not (even though Jonah Hill was in FSM). The only cross over character is Aldous Snow.

Jonah Hill's character, Aaron, works for a music company owned by Sergio, Puff Daddy-P Diddy-Puffy-Sean John whatever his name is..y'all know who I'm talking about! Puff Daddy was superb in this movie! One of my favorite characters. He was hilarious! He made me laugh out loud! He was a joy to watch! Maybe he found a new calling..a comedic actor!!

Well we all know how Aldous Snow is and Aaron has to get him from the UK to LA. I think I might even put this in a buddy-buddy movie category.

Great movie! Go watch it! Laugh!

Iron Man 2

Iron Man 2
May 9, 10

It's a sequel so I am going to take it easy on Tony Stark. I thought Iron Man was a strong action packed movie and I was expecting a lot out of its sequel. It didn't disappoint (that much). I loved Mickey Rourke in this movie as Whip Lash. Besides his face, that man has a killer body for being almost 60 years old. Ugh...I didn't know he was 58 until just a second before I typed that last sentence. I think I drooled over a grandpa's chest and abs. I am going to go sit in the corner and think about Nick Jonas and his 17 year old body to help me recover. brb

Ok...I'm better now. IM2....it was ok. I didn't run out of the theaters telling everyone I know to go see it. I actually think you can wait for dvd unless you are a huge fan. Make sure you watch past all the credits to see what's next in The Avengers series!

How To Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon (3D - IMAX)
April 2010

This was a fantastic movie! Since the Academy Awards bumped the nominees for Best Picture to 10, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being nominated. I know it's a cartoon and you might think that all cartoon are made for kids but please don't pass up this movie for that reason. It's great and if you think about it most jokes in cartoon movies go over the heads of the kids and the adults are the ones that laugh!

Hiccup, the son of a viking, has to be the sweetest character. You fall in love with him immediately. I don't want to ruin the movie for you so I won't go into anymore detail on the trials and tribulations between Hiccup and his strong viking father but it's totally worth the watch.

This is one of the top 10 movies I've seen so far in 2010!

The Perfect Game

The Perfect Game
April 2010

I saw this movie and watched the trailer on my iPhone with the Flixter ap (which is my favorite) and was excited to find out this little indie film was showing at my local theater.

Its based on the true story of the first ever little league team from Monterrey, Mexico in 1960 traveling to the Little League World Series. There is some back story to the team so I won't go into too much detail but I enjoyed this movie. The kids on the team were great if you can get over their horrible Mexican which got on my nerves. It was a heart warming movie. Clifton Collins Jr was the lead. Along with Sam Worthington I suggest you put Collins Jr. on your radar...he is great in everything he does. Cheech Marion and Louis Gossett Jr. also were great casting decisions.

I think this is a great movie to watch with your kids. Heart warming story and you might shed a single tear at the end.

While watching Up in the Air my mom saw this movie trailer and laughed out loud and whispered to me that she wanted to see this movie. I think the clips of Marky-Mark shirtless showing his Funky Bunch (his abs) probably helped her decision.

This was a cute and funny movie. I am sure the main point of this movie was lost on a single gal with no kids but I still enjoyed it. Lots of hi jinx and jokes. The action sequences got a little out of hand but it was still funny.

Cute popcorn movie. Since I am writing this review totally late go rent it when it comes out if you haven't seen it. If you Remember that its a comedy and its just for entertainment and you will enjoy it.

Clash of the Titans

Clash of the Titans
Apr 4, 10

I wanted very patiently for this movie for a few of reason. Reason 1: I loved this movie as a kid! I used to watch it all the time even though Medusa scared the crap out of me Reason 2: Sam Worthington - after seeing him in Terminator Salvation last summer I was in love Reason 3: this was the first movie I was going to watch in the D-Box seats.

My review of this movie might be a little slighted because of those damn D-Box seats. They were amazing. They take the whole movie watching experience to the next level. Seriously one of the best movie experiences I have ever had. Totally worth the wait. I really think it makes the movie 10 times better.

Now on to the actual movie....Sam Worthington is amazing. Yeah yeah he might lose his accent a few times but the upskirt shots make up for it. He is truly a beautiful man! I am going to really enjoy seeing him in many many movies to come. This is the type of movie that might only be great in the theaters. I think it will lose some pizazz once its inserted into your blu-ray player. Good movie but the D-Box seats made it so much better. Its not a bad remake. Bubo made a quick cameo...I would have liked to see him in the whole movie.

I am a sucker for a comedy. If you make me laugh in the trailer I will most likely go see the movie. I know, I know...the movie makers don't make the trailer and the publicity department does but still, I'm a sucker!

The title alone makes you laugh. You know going into this movie that its not going to be an academy nominated picture and thats ok. Who doesn't need a laugh in these horrible economic times (seriously....is anyone reimbursing me for these movie tickets?)

The cast was great...John Cusack, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry and my favorite Clark Duke! Not much more to say...the title gives away the movie. Anyone that remembers the 80's will enjoy this movie. Play a little game while watching it and try to pick out all the 80's movie lines quoted throughout the movie.

The way I see most of the movie trailers is off of Flixster on my iPhone. I stumbled upon this trailer a few months ago and thought it look adorable. I never read the books since but the trailer made me laugh a out loud.

I really enjoyed this movie. I think I laughed throughout the whole thing. The kids that played the major parts were adorable. Zachary Gordon who played Greg and Robert Capron who played his best friend Rowley were the perfect pair. This is totally a movie that the whole family would enjoy. Simple, clean and funny humor.

Kids, parents and even some grandparent will enjoy this movie. I will put this in the category of The Sandlot as a great funny family movie.

I was really excited to see that this movie was playing at the local Santikos close to my house. Its not that often that we get a quiet independent film out in the 'burbs.

I read a few things about this film and wanted to see it but I knew that since it was a Roman Polanski film that I wanted to see this on the big screen. There is nothing prettier than a Polanski film. I love the way they look. I get lost in each scene.

I really enjoyed this movie. Ewan MacGregor, the ghost writer, was great in the movie along with Pierce Bronsan as the British Prime Minister and Olivia Williams as the PM's wife. I was surprised with Kim Cattrall supporting role as the PM's secretary. The cast was great in this movie.

Defiantly check this movie out. The look, the story and the actors are all great!

I wanted to see this movie after seeing the trailer with the four guys talking about being a moodle.

I thought this was a cute movie. I found myself laughing out loud in some parts. I think the best part of this movie might have been the older Asian couple sitting next to me. They had to be in their 60's and they were laughing which made me laugh harder!

I love that Kyle Bornheimer is in this movie. After seeing him in those hilarious cell phone commercials and watching Worst Week, I think he is comic gold. If you know me you know I have a soft spot for nerds. Jay Baruchel is adorable in this picture and you can never go wrong with TJ Miller.

Cute movie with some laughs.

I was a little tired during the movie and for some reason loud movies always makes me sleepy. I nearly fell asleep but I didn't.

The plot of this movie was just a few years too late. I am not sure if anyone is worried about seeing a movie about weapons of mass destruction.

Not much really to say about this movie. I really don't think anyone should run out to see this movie. You won't miss out on anything by waiting for the DVD to come out.

Shutter Island

Shutter Island
Feb 24, 10

I was really excited to see this movie. It was originally supposed to be released in October 09 but it was pushed back. I started to wonder why it was pushed back...was it because it didn't test well and they had to go back and re shoot parts and alter the script. After asking my movie guru, Doug Benson, his thoughts on the movie I decided to head out to the theater and see it. Wow...I am sure glad I did.

First off...Before seeing this movie I did not see any trailers for it on tv...just what was shown last summer before the original release date. I just saw a trailer and they talk about the plot a little bit! I won't mention it here because I don't want to ruin the movie for anyone! Trust me...one single sentence will ruin the whole movie for you!

I thought this was a great movie. You have to love the way Martin Scorsese shoots a movie and you have to love the way Marty gets Leonardo DiCaprio to shine. I did feel like the movie was just a tad on the long side. I think they could have easily shaved about 20 mins off it but it didn't drag on. I just like to watch a movie that isn't 2 hours long!

Without giving away too much on the movie the moral of this post...go see Shutter Island!
I don't think you will be disappointed. It you are, suck it up...I won't refund your money!

Dear John

Dear John
Feb 15, 10

To continue my depressing Valentine's Weekend I decided to go see Dear John. Since this is a movie based on a Nicholas Sparks book I made sure my tissues were in my purse before I walked up to the box office.

Looking at this trailer I thought this was just a normal "fall in love - love is separated but can withstand any adversity - we lived happily ever after" story. What the F was I thinking!!!!!

I am not going to spoil the movie for anyone but there was a whole other plot going on with this 'love story' that I wasn't prepared for. (I didn't read the book...sue me!) I am surprised I was able to even see the second half of this movie through my tears! Not since Up have a had a constant flow of tears in the movie theater (Admit it!! The first 15 minutes of Up was heart wrenching for a Pixar cartoon!!!)

This is a perfect DVD if you do have the same reaction as I do so you can cry and blow your nose in the privacy of your own home.

I think I might have cried a little more than the average person seeing this movie just because the subject matter hit a little close to home.
I am going to give this movie three stars because of my reaction and the impact this movie had on me. The acting wasn't that great and the ending was weird but this movie hit me in the soft spot of my heart and I think might stay there for a long time. Plus Channing Tatum was shirtless in more than one scene and my first ever love..yes even before George Clooney, was in this movie... Elliot himself HENRY THOMAS!!!

Valentine's Day
Feb 13, 10

I'll admit it...the star studded cast of this flick made my ears perk up. Seeing Garry Marshall's name in the credits didn't hurt either.
So what does a forever single girl do the day before Single Awareness Day (aka Valentine's Day). Well she goes to see the most cliche movie out there.

It was a cute movie. Nothing too exciting to report besides "cute". I think the funniest part of this movie was the reaction of the crowd in one certain scene! I won't give it away so don't worry...no spoiler alerts here. But it was pretty funny!

I really don't see any reason for you to run out and see this movie in the theaters. I think you can probably wait for this movie to come out on DVD.

Rating: ★★

ps...I think I am going to get a little tougher with my rating system! At first I gave this movie 2 1/2 stars but then I realized the 1/2 wasn't that much so why not bump it down to 2 stars. Bradley Cooper sans shirt would have earned the 1/2 of a star back ;)

The Book of Eli
Jan 3, 2010

I was told as a child if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.
That should sum up my review of this movie.

I didn't hear much buzz about this movie and there is a reason for that. It just wasn't that good. I found the movie to be really slow. Some movies are better DVD's and maybe this is one of those.
So that's all I really have to say about this movie.

My rating is going to be 2 1/2 stars for the little twist at the end of the movie and for having Gary Oldman in it.
**Correction...after thinking about this I am going to bump it to 1 1/2 star**

Crazy Heart

Crazy Heart
Jan 31, 2010

I didn't know much about this movie before seeing it. I read one review about it and knew I wanted to see it. Jeff Bridges won the Best Actor Golden Globe for his performance as Bad Blake and now I know why. He is fantastic in it. Well maybe Amazing would be a better word to describe his performance. He made a drunk lonely washed up country singer someone that you feel for. There was something about Jeff that I can't put my finger on but if you could bottle it up and sell it everyone would be a fantastic actor.

Crazy Heart was written beautifully. You really do feel for Bad Blake and where his life ended up playing hole in the wall bars from town to town. Maggie Gyllenhaal played Jean who met Bad during an interview and Robert Duvall plays his friend back home. Colin Farrell also had a small part in the movie. Who knew Jeff Bridges and Colin Farrell could sing!!!

Great movie from start to finish. If you were already a Jeff Bridges fan (and for those who aren't go watch The Big Lebowski again) you will love him more after this performance.

Magnificent Movie!!!!

It's Complicated

It's Complicated
Jan 24, 2010

One thing that is not complicated is the way I feel about this movie. Loved it!

Nancy Meyers did it again! I loved her 2003 movie 'Something's Got To Give" so it's no surprise that I loved this one!

Meryl Streep was fantastic. She is hilarious! Alec Baldwin playing her ex-husband that married a younger woman was a perfect fit for her. They played off each other so well and throw Steve Martin in that mix and you have a winner! John Krasinski was a definite screen stealer. I might be a little biased but I love him in everything he does!

It you haven't figured it out yet, the relationship between Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin is what's so complicated.

I found myself laughing out loud during the movie. I took my mom to see this movie and she enjoyed it too.

It's cute and funny! Not sure if it's worth a $9 trip to the movies but if you did pay that amount I don't think you will be that disappointed.

The Lovely Bones

The Lovely Bones
Jan 16, 2010

I am still trying to figure out how to describe this movie. It's not really a murder mystery since in the trailer and the beginning of the movie they tell you who murdered Susie Salmon. I guess you can say its a suspense/spiritual movie.

You see Susie after her murder stuck in the "in between". You also see Susie's family dealing with the tragic loss of a child. Mark Wahlberg is great in this role. Of course I might be biased since I saw him on his first tour with the Funky Bunch back in the early 90's back at Splashtown. After singing Good Vibrations he stripped down to his Calvins and jumped into the wave pool! Anyway!!! Susan Sarandon was fabulous in this movie as the grandmother. Stanley Tucci as the villian was great! From the first time he shows up on the screen he gives you the heebie jeebies

Peter Jackson really made a visually beauitiful movie. The story was great. Even though you knew who murdered Susie you were still on the edge of your seat seeing what happens after her death and how he will be caught.

Disclaimer: I am not a parent. I know that the thought of losing a kid is horific so if you are sensitive in that way you might want to stay away. I was in tears in some parts.

Daybreakers

Daybreakers
Jan 12, 2010

I knew I wanted to see this film after seeing a quick teaser trailer for it. I didn't do much research on the movie like I normally do i.e. looking at the writer, director and stars. I knew Ethan Hawke was in but that was about it. I knew there were vampires and there were farming humans for blood. That's the plot they give you in the trailer and that's all you really need to know.

I loved the look of the movie. Since vampires aren't allowed in the sun without bursting into flames the film was dark in some parts. But not too dark where you are squinting like in the movie Quarantine I recently saw. Ethan Hawke was a great vampire. After all the Twilight hype it's nice to actually see a vampire without all the gay glitter and bad makeup.

I think the film ran a little over 1 1/2 hours. It wasn't too short and it wasn't too long. I could go into detail on the movie but that would give a lot way and ruin it for the 1 person that is actually reading this blog.

I totally recommend this movie. The visual effect were great. I loved the look of the vampires. I think I failed to mention that Willem Dafoe was in it! Now you know everything he is in it great! I wish I could say more without ruining the movie.

I will definitely be looking into the other movies The Spierig Brothers wrote and directed. They did a fabulous job with this one!

Leap Year

Leap Year
Jan 10, 2010

You know how this movie was going to turn out just by watching the trailer but I still felt a need to see it. I am a sucker for love stories. Especially ones set in Ireland! One of my favorite chick flick-typical love story is The Matchmaker which is also set in Ireland. Ok...back to Leap Year.

It stars Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. I recently saw The Lookout staring Matthew Goode and I was sold on him! Tall, Lean, Dark Haired, Blue Eyes and has a accent. Hello...Perfect Guy!

Anna (Adams) has to get to Dublin to meet up with her up tight typical business guy boyfriend Jeremy and Declan (Goode) is going to drive her there after her plane gets rerouted due to weather. Typical love triangle. No need to say spoiler alert and no need for me to go into any more detail on the plot. Everyone knows how this will end. Its the stuff in the middle of the movie that counts. I laughed a few times and was charmed by Declan's whit and accent! Anyone that has seen any of Amy Adams movies knows how she just glows on screen and this movie isn't any different.

This was a cute run of the mill - girl has a boy, girl meets a new boy and then we all know what happens after that - movie.

This is going to be a DVD Redbox rental on a lonely Friday night.

Up in the Air

Up in the Air
Jan 3, 2010

Anyone that knows me knows my love for George Clooney runs deep. I have loved him since he appeared on The Facts of Life back in 1985! But let me set the record straight…I don’t run out and see every movie Mr. Clooney makes. I think the last movie I saw with George was Syriana back in 05. After seeing George Clooney and Jason Reitman’s name in the trailer for this movie I knew I had to see it. I became a Jason Reitman fan after seeing Juno. Plus he comes from good stock. Ivan Reitman (Meatballs, Stripes and Ghostbusters) is his dad.

I love movies that make me think hours, days and even weeks after leaving the theater and Up in the Air is one of them. I saw a little of myself in Ryan Bingham. I am not sure if it the wall he puts up or how vulnerable he became after letting the wall down a little, but I could relate.

George Clooney makes it easy for you to fall in love with his character. Anna Kendrick, who plays Natalie Keener his work associate, was adorable. I couldn't place her while watching the movie but she plays Jessica in the Twilight movies. They were great together on screen.

I laughed, I think I might have cried a little and I left the movie theater thinking about life and “What’s in my backpack”.

Go see this movie before it starts winning awards so you can say you saw it before the hype!

Movie Reviews!

Ok...Here I go!
This is where I will post a review for every movie that I see this year.
Let me clarify...movies viewed in the theater.
I rent movies all the time but they are usually movies I have already seen or dorky documentaries.

It's already the second weekend of 2010 and I have seen Up in the Air and Leap Year.

Let me watch Inglorious Basterds first and then I will start on the reviews later this afternoon....maybe!
